Sometimes, it might surprise you where you pop up…. which I proved to myself, as I came across a concert featuring my work that had slipped under my radar!

Back in 2014 I submitted two pieces to The Australian Boys Choir for their 75th anniversary composition competition, one of which, ‘Northern Star’ was selected as a finalist and premiered. I had all but forgotten about the other piece I had submitted, until I came across the concert announcement for The Australian Boys Choir Concert in March 2023, which was featuring my other work, ‘Down the Open Road’!
- I promptly emailed them to let them know this was in fact a world premiere, and that I was delighted they were performing another of my works. I was able to watch the premiere by the wonder that is online concert performances (at the ungodly hour of 1am for me!), and was delighted to hear such a lovely premiere of my piece. Thank you Australian Boys Choir for continuing to programme my work!
Lydia Jane Pughtag:lydiajanepugh.com,2005:Post/71517842023-02-10T13:50:32+00:002023-02-10T13:50:32+00:00'GOLD AND BLUE AWARDED HONOURABLE MENTION', January 31st 2023
2023 is proving to be starting wonderfully for me it seems! This was a truly wonderful experience, not only from a professional capacity, but personally. Sitting on a cabin deck in the middle of the woods on the side of a mountain ridge, whilst listening to incredible musicians rehearse new works gave my mind a chance to release all the stresses of the last two years, and I could feel my creativity (which in all honesty has felt muted) returning. Top that all off with wonderful performances in wonderful locations (and an amazing Whiskey Tasting night), it was just a brilliant way to get back into the world of international music making. Thank you Brian Chin and everyone from Common Tone for inviting me to take part!

And then a complete change of pace and location, The Neo Voice Festival took place over 10 days in Los Angeles. This festival had a much more academic basis, with 10hour days of seminars, discussions and rehearsals, and where I was not only a featured composer, but part of the choir, and a featured soloist. Another hugely rewarding experience surrounded by so many talented and hard-working musicians, I am so pleased I was able to make it work and attend this festival as well.
- you can watch the culmination of our hard work, 'The Signified' below:
(My piece; 'Gold and Blue' is at 41'30, and my featured soloist performances are at 21'45, 24'55, and 1'05'45)

Lydia Jane Pughtag:lydiajanepugh.com,2005:Post/69872902022-06-05T22:37:26+01:002022-09-02T16:59:39+01:00'BEC DU NEZ' PREMIERED WITH EAST CHAMBER MUSIC; June 5th 2022
After a small delay due to Covid (how used to that are we now eh?), I'm very happy to say that my piece 'Bec du Nez' has now been recorded and premiered by East Chamber Music.
- Performing my work are Casey Granofsky (Flute) and David Vanbiesbrouck (Oboe). September 22nd, 2020
'All-Nighter' the musical was a huge success - it was quite unbelievable what we managed to pull together and produce in just a week. And riding on the back of the shows initial success, the writers Laura Simpson and Rickey Long decided to continue to develop the show, and asked us to commit to performing it again at the end of September, this time in the Performing Arts Centre, for a 2-night (and 4-show) run.

The state of the performing arts industry is not great, let's be honest, so to be perhaps the only place in the world right now that can produce live theatre is amazing - not only that, but to be part of the creation of a brand new musical at all is wonderful, and I'm honoured to be involved.

The show runs on Saturday 26th, and Sunday 27th September
- 6pm & 8pm performances
- At the Performing Arts Centre, Guernsey

IN A WEEK! August 23rd 2020
I was utterly delighted to have been asked my my dear friends Laura Simpson and Rickey Long to perform in their new musical initiative.

With theatres around the world still closed and arts industries in jeopardy, Laura and Rickey took the initiative to write and stage a brand new musical.... in the space of ONE WEEK! No mean feat, which saw a cast of 7 (including myself), a band of 4 and a production team of 3 write, rehearse, produce and bring alive a brand new music, playing to a packed house at the Avril Earl's Dance and Theatre Centre in Guernsey.

It was an amazing event - a live recording of the premiere was filmed and will be posted shortly.
However, this is not the end! The show is still in development, and there are some exciting things on the horizon. Undeterred by the COVID19 pandemic and it's devastating impact on the arts, Choral Chameleon Hosted an online institute this year, which included online interviews/masterclasses with the faculty, performers, and composer/conductor alumni.

I was thrilled to be asked to take part in alumni interview alongside some dear friends.
You can watch in full on Choral Chameleon's Youtube Channel
Lydia Jane Pughtag:lydiajanepugh.com,2005:Post/63269562020-05-23T00:03:46+01:002021-08-05T18:00:13+01:00'BIGGER THAN MY SONG' COMPOSER INTERVIEW, May 22nd 2020
Despite everything that's going on, the amazing people I get to work with are all still finding ways to push through with optimism and hope for the arts when we return to a sense of normalcy. At the end of 2019 I was commissioned by Choral Chameleon to take part in their project, 'Bigger than my Song', which sees 11 commissioned composers arranging any Top 40 Hit they choose for Choral Chameleon to perform. April 24th, 2017This past weekend went on a little Island hop to the most northern island of the Channel Islands; Alderney. During this weekend I had a wonderful cabaret-style gig at the Adventurer's Rest Hotel and Bar, and ran a thoroughly successful vocal workshop with the Alderney Voices. As a voice coach I love to see and hear the progress made by any singer, but some real magic happened with this group of community singers, including some finding parts of their vocal range they never knew were there! This all culminated in a wonderful mini-concert at St Anne's Church, where myself and Michael Sullivan also performed as guest soloists.

Thanks Alderney, it was a truly fantastic weekend, and I hope to be back soon!
Lydia Jane Pughtag:lydiajanepugh.com,2005:Post/45868912017-02-12T17:08:49+00:002017-02-12T17:09:02+00:00LYDIA JANE PUGH TO BE FEATURED ON COMPOSITION BLOG, February 2017Following a call for scores, my piece 'Voul-ous enne P'tite Goute?'
